CINCINNATI, July 21 (UPI) -- Cristian Guzman put Washington in front with a two-run homer in the fifth Wednesday and the Nationals snapped a four-game skid with an 8-5 win over Cincinnati.

Stephen Strasburg (5-2) gave up three runs but got plenty of offensive support, and his seven strikeouts ran his season total to 75 in 54 1/3 innings.

The teams were deadlocked at 1-1 when Guzman hit his second homer of the season. Washington then scored four times in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead, getting two-run singles from both Ian Desmond and Nyjer Morgan.

Washington had not won since Strasburg's previous start. The rookie sensation worked 5 2/3 innings Wednesday, giving up seven hits and throwing 97 pitches.

Matt Capps, Washington's fifth pitcher, recorded the final four outs for his 24th save.

The loss went to Bronson Arroyo (10-5), who gave up seven runs on six hits with three walks over 5 2/3 innings.

Cincinnati had won its previous two games.
