DETROIT, July 20 (UPI) -- The Detroit Tigers placed third baseman Brandon Inge on the disabled list Tuesday with a broken bone in his left hand.

Inge sustained the injury Monday when he was stuck in the hand by a pitch from Texas Rangers starter Scott Feldman and is expected to miss the next 4 to 6 weeks.

The Tigers third baseman attempted to spin out of the way of the pitch, but it hit him on his left pinky finger. He stayed in the game for another inning but was then taken out.

Inge is a key presence in the Detroit lineup and one of the best-fielding third basemen in the game. He was batting .263 with six home runs and 40 RBI for the Tigers.

The team announced it has called up pitcher Casey Fien from Class AAA Toledo to take Inge's roster spot. Fien is 1-1 with a 2.33 earned run average and four saves in 31 games with the Mud Hens this year.
