Jets to put six on Ring of Honor

FLORHAM PARK, N.J., July 20 (UPI) -- Six names, including quarterback Joe Namath's and Coach Weeb Ewbank's, will be placed on the New York Jets' Ring of Honor this year, the team said Tuesday.

The Jets said Ewbank and Namath head an initial class of inductees that will include lineman Joe Klecko, running back Curtis Martin, wide receiver Don Maynard and tackle Winston Hill.

Ceremonies unveiling the Ring of Honor will take place Aug. 16 during the team's first game in their new stadium.

Namath is most famous for his guarantee that the upstart Jets would defeat the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. He passed for more than 27,000 yards and 170 touchdowns while playing for New York from 1965-76.

Ewbank was the coach of the Jets' Super Bowl champion team and led the team form 1963-73.

Klecko keyed the New York defensive line from 1977-87 while Martin rushed for 10,302 yards and 58 touchdowns in a Jets' career that lasted from 1998-2005. He led the NFL in rushing in 2004.

Maynard was an original member of the team when it joined the AFL in 1960 and had 11,732 yards and 88 touchdowns over 13 seasons. Hill played 198 games for New York from 1963-78.
