COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 17 (UPI) -- Emilio Renteria and Brian Carroll found the net Saturday, propelling the Columbus Crew to a 2-0 victory over Red Bull New York.

Renteria scored in the 20th minute, taking the ball just inside the penalty area and putting it off the fingertips of Red Bulls goalie Bouna Coundoul for his third goal of the season.

The Crew (9-3-4) made it 2-0 in the 48th minute when Carroll picked up a free kick outside the penalty area and booted a curving ball through traffic and off past Coundoul, his first goal of the year.

New York (8-6-2) was playing without recent addition Thierry Henry, who was at the match but not on the roster. Henry is expected to play his first Red Bull game against the English club Tottenham on Thursday.
