SAN FRANCISCO, July 17 (UPI) -- Barry Zito struck out 10 over eight innings Friday and San Francisco pitchers again dominated in bringing the Giants a 1-0 victory over the New York Mets.
New York was shut out for the third time in four games, having been a 2-0 victim of San Francisco's Tim Lincecum Thursday.
Zito (8-4) retired the side in each of the first three innings before giving up a leadoff single to Ruben Tejada in the fourth. The only other New York hit was a two-out double by Carlos Beltran in the seventh.
Brian Wilson worked around a two-out walk in the ninth en route to his 24th save.
The Giants have won four straight. Zito improved to 6-1 in 10 home starts this season.
The only run off hard-luck loser Jonathan Niese (6-4) came in the fourth, when Aubrey Huff walked, went to third on a double by Buster Posey and scored on a fielder's choice grounder by Pat Burrell.
