MLB: Los Angeles Angels 3, Seattle 2

ANAHEIM, Calif., July 17 (UPI) -- Jered Weaver allowed two runs over seven innings and got the best of Felix Hernandez Friday in leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 3-2 win over Seattle.

Hernandez (7-6) went the distance for the fifth time this season, but he gave up three early runs and 10 hits in Seattle's third straight loss. The Angels have defeated the Mariners in their last seven meetings.

Weaver (9-5) struck out five and gave up six hits after losing his last two starts prior to the All-Star break. Brian Fuentes was perfect in the ninth for his 17th save.

Kevin Frandsen singled in a run for the Angels in the first and Bobby Abreu did the same in the second. The other Los Angeles run scored on a double play grounder in the second off the bat of Torii Hunter.

The Seattle runs came on a homer by Justin Smoak in the seventh. Smoak was dealt to Seattle by Texas earlier in the month in the trade that sent pitcher Cliff Lee to the Rangers.
