MLB: Florida 2, Washington 0

MIAMI, July 17 (UPI) -- Josh Johnson hurled six shutout innings and Ronny Paulino drove in a pair of runs Saturday in the Florida Marlins' 2-0 victory over Washington.

Johnson (10-3) yielded seven hits and struck out seven over six innings, lowering his earned run average to a major league-best 1.62. He improved to 7-0 lifetime in 14 career games against the Nationals.

Jose Veras, Clay Hensley and Leo Nunez followed up with one scoreless inning each to complete the whitewash, and Nunez picked up his 21st save.

Paulino stroked a two-run single in the second inning, one of only four hits surrendered by Washington starter Livan Hernandez (6-6) in his six innings of work.
