RENO, Nev., July 17 (UPI) -- Scott McCarron carded a 5-under-par 67 Saturday take over first place after three rounds of the Reno-Tahoe Open.

McCarron, who is serving as the tourney's host, ended the day at 10-under 206, one stroke better than Robert Garrigus (73) and John Mallinger (71) at Montreux Golf & Country Club.

Garrigus, the second round co-leader, would have ended 54 holes tied with McCarron for the lead but bogeyed the 18th.

Graham DeLaet carded a 10-under 62, zooming up 57 places and into a tie for fourth with Craig Barlow (67) and Rod Pampling (67) at 8-under 208.

Second-round co-leader Matt Bettencourt stumbled Saturday, falling to a 3-over 75, good for a seventh-place tie with Chad Campbell (71) and Bob Heintz (72) at minus-7.
