
STUTTGART, Germany, July 16 (UPI) -- Albert Montanes rolled over second-seeded Jurgen Melzer Friday and into the semifinals of the Mercedes Cup tennis tournament in Stuttgart, Germany.
Montanes, seeded fifth, won 6-4, 6-1 over Melzer in 57 minutes. Montanes won nearly three-quarters of the points on serve and had four breaks in Melzer's eight service games.
He'll go against fourth-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero in Saturday's semifinals. Ferrero defeated Simon Greul 6-3, 7-5, taking advantage of Greul's second serve.
No. 3-seeded Gael Monfils needed to come from behind to get past Florida Mayer 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Monfils had five breaks over the second and third sets.
Also, Daniel Gimeno-Traver beat Marco Chiudinelli 6-1, 6-3 in just more than an hour. Gimeno-Traver won 60 percent of the points in the match and didn't lose his serve.
Monfils and Gimeno-Traver will meet for the first time in their careers when they play a semifinal match Saturday.
