PRAGUE, Czech Republic, July 15 (UPI) -- Agnes Szavay's victory Thursday capped a day of four straight-set, second-round matches at the Prague Open in the Czech Republic.
Szavay, seeded seventh this week after successfully defending a WTA title last week in Hungary, claimed a 6-1, 7-5 win over Iveta Benesova in the tournament's final second-round match.
Szavay was in control most of the match, piling up six breaks in 10 service games for Benesova.
She'll go against Polona Hercog, who advanced on a second-round walkover when second-seeded Alexandra Dulgheru came up with knee problems, in Friday's quarterfinals.
Fifth-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues took a 6-4, 6-2 decision Thursday over Catalina Castano, dropping serve once in the match.
The other second-round results Thursday saw Patty Schnyder dismiss Alize Cornet 6-2, 6-1 in 65 minutes while Lucie Hradecka took out Monica Niculescu 6-1, 6-2.
In addition to the Szavay-Hercog match Friday, Medina Garrigues will play Hradecka, Schnyder goes against Anna Tatishvili and eighth-seeded Barbora Zahlavova Strycova meets Johanna Larsson.
