ST. ANDREWS, Scotland, July 13 (UPI) -- U.S. golfer Tiger Woods said Tuesday he has ditched his favorite putter to better cope with the slow greens of St. Andrew's Old Course in Scotland.
Woods told reporters during his pre-British Open news conference that he is setting aside the Scott Cameron Titleist with which he won 13 of his 14 major championships in favor of a newer Nike model, The Washington Post reported.
The ball comes off the blade more quickly with the new putter, he said.
"I've always struggled on slower greens," Woods told reporters. "I've always putted well on faster greens. This putter does come off faster. ... It rolls the ball better and rolls it faster. So these greens, I've had to make very little adjustment in how hard I'm hitting it compared to if I had my older putter."
The Post said Woods avoided questions from the British media about the sex scandal that surrounded him this year and wouldn't answer a question about whether his divorce from wife Elin Nordegren had been finalized.
