HOUSTON, July 11 (UPI) -- Matt Holliday smacked a three-run homer Sunday and the St. Louis Cardinals bested Houston 4-2.

Cardinals starter Blake Hawksworth (3-5) overcame a shaky first inning in which he yielded back-to-back RBI singles to Carlos Lee and Hunter Pence to finish with a five-plus-inning effort.

The victory boosted the Cardinals to a 47-41 record heading into the All-Star break, one game behind the Cincinnati Reds for first place in the National League Central.

Houston starter Wandy Rodriguez (6-11) allowed six hits and struck out six in six innings of work.

The Astros took a 36-53 mark into the break.
