
LOS ANGELES, July 11 (UPI) -- Vicente Padilla held the Chicago Cubs to two hits and a walk over eight innings Sunday in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 7-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
Padilla struck out six en route to improving to 4-2 on the season.
The Dodgers took three of their four games with the Cubs to pull within two games of San Diego in the National League West heading into this week's All-Star Game.
Jamey Loney keyed the Dodgers' offense, hitting a three-run homer and finishing with 4 RBI.
Los Angeles battered Chicago starter Carlos Silva (9-3) for six runs on six hits and three walks in just 1 1/3 innings. Silva had entered the game with a string of seven quality starts.
Ryan Theriot doubled twice but the Cubs mustered only two other hits and couldn't push a runner across home.
Chicago goes into the break 9 1/2 games out of first in the NL Central.
