Edoardo Molinari posts Scottish Open win

GLASGOW, Scotland, July 11 (UPI) -- Edoardo Molinari collected his first career European Tour title Sunday, carding a 3-over 74 to take the Scottish Open by three strokes.

Molinari joined his brother Francesco as a tour winner, parlaying a one-shot third-round lead into a 12-under 272 victory.

He maintained that one-shot lead over Darren Clarke until the third hole, which proved to be a turning point. Clarke landed in the water in front of the green at the par-5 hole and missed a shot in which he tried to hit out of the hazard.

Clarke ended up with a double-bogey seven and Molinari drained a 3-foot birdie putt to take a 4-shot lead. Clarke finished the day at Loch Lomond Golf Club 9-under 275 but earned an invitation to St. Andrews for next week's British Open Championship.

Raphael Jacquelin, also shooting for the British Open invitation, registered a 3-under 68 in the Sunday's round, taking third place at minus-8, while Francesco Molinari carded a 1-over 72 to tie for fourth place with Stephen Gallacher (68) and Peter Hedblom (72).

All three finished at 7-under 277.
