DENVER, July 10 (UPI) -- Ian Stewart finished off a six-RBI effort with a grand slam homer in the seventh Friday, rallying the Colorado Rockies to a 10-8 victory over San Diego.
The Rockies opened a three-game series by moving within two games of the Padres for the lead in the National League West.
Colorado had two five-run innings, the first one giving the Rockies a 5-3 advantage in the third and the second one bringing them back from an 8-5 deficit in the seventh.
Stewart hit a two-run homer in the first of the big innings and then delivered the key blow of the game in the seventh off Luke Gregerson (2-5). The Rockies won their fifth straight.
Matt Belisle (4-3), the fourth of seven Colorado pitchers, got the win despite giving up a run on a hit in the seventh -- his only inning of work. Huston Street turned in a perfect ninth for his fourth save.
Consecutive one-out singles in the Colorado seventh by Jonathan Herrera, Carlos Gonzalez and Jason Giambi delivered a run and brought the Rockies within two.
Miguel Olivo drew a walk to load the bases and, after Brad Hawpe struck out swinging, Stewart hit a 1-1 pitch out to left.
