DENVER, July 7 (UPI) -- The Colorado Rockies scored nine runs in the bottom of the ninth, capped by Seth Smith's three-run home run, Tuesday to beat St. Louis 12-9.
Smith hit his walk-off homer against Ryan Franklin (3-1), who was roughed up for six runs on six hits, including two home runs, in just 1/3 inning.
Manuel Corpas (3-5) pitched the final two innings to get the win for the Rockies.
The Cardinals, with home runs by Felipe Lopez and Matt Holiday, scored six runs in the middle four innings and headed into the ninth leading by six.
Denys Reyes managed to get one batter out in the bottom of the ninth, but he also gave up two hits, a walk and a wild pitch. That brought Franklin in to close it out but the first batter he faced, Chris Iannetta, blasted a three-run homer to cut the margin to 9-7.
Colorado tied the game 9-9 on a single by Jason Giambi. Miguel Olivo, batting for the second time in the inning, singled to put runners at the corner. Smith then drilled his 12th home run of the season to finish off the comeback and seal the victory.
