LOS ANGELES, July 6 (UPI) -- Offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson was released Tuesday from his letter of intent to attend the University of Southern California, the school said.
Henderson, of Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul, Minn., was rated as the top offensive tackle recruit in the nation prior to committing to USC last February.
But the 6-foot-8, 301-pound high schooler balked at attending USC after the school was hit by NCAA sanctions banning it from postseason play for the next two seasons stemming from an investigation surrounding former Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush.
"We are releasing Seantrel Henderson out of his national letter of intent with zero penalties and no restrictions," USC head coach Lane Kiffin said. "Seantrel has been great through the whole process and we wish him the best of luck with his decision."
Henderson made recruiting visits to Florida, Miami-Florida, Notre Dame and Ohio State before settling on USC.
