DENVER, July 5 (UPI) -- Juan Pablo Angel scored in the 34th minute Sunday to pull New York even, earning the Red Bulls a road point with a 1-1 draw against Colorado.
Angel found the net with a hard-struck shot from inside the penalty area after being left undefended on a corner kick and New York (8-5-1) pulled to within two points of Columbus in the Eastern Conference standings.
On the play, Angel found the ball at his feet when Drew Moor missed a clearing header on the corner kick and fired it into the top of the net.
The Rapids (6-3-4) had taken a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when Omar Cummings notched his fourth goal of the season, putting in Conor Casey's accurate cross from in close.
The tie, in a game played in a driving rainstorm, extended Colorado's unbeaten streak to six.
