ARLINGTON, Texas, July 5 (UPI) -- Jayson Nix walloped a pair of home runs and Matt LaPorta added a two-run shot Monday, lifting the Cleveland Indians to a 9-3 win over Texas.

Nix went deep with a fourth-inning solo shot to make it 5-1 Cleveland and added a two-run blast in the seventh, while LaPorta's long ball highlighted a three-run third inning for the Indians.

Carlos Santana connected for a bases-empty homer and Joe Smith (1-1) picked up the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief as Cleveland took the first of a three-game series at Arlington, Texas.

Rangers starter Omar Beltre (0-1) was shaky in his second major league start, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks.

Ian Kinsler led Texas at the plate with two hits and an RBI.
