SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 4 (UPI) -- Ike Opara scored for San Jose and Andy Najar knocked one in for D.C. United in a 1-1 MLS tie Saturday.
Opara got the third goal of his rookie season at the 16th minute when he volleyed a shot through traffic and past United goalkeeper Troy Perkins.
Najar, also a rookie, scored in the 54th minute when he volleyed home a Stephen King cross at the back post. It was his second goal of the year.
The tie left San Jose (5-4-4) winless in five straight games.
The Earthquakes play next at Philadelphia next Saturday, while United (3-9-2) plays at New York the same day.
