ANAHEIM, Calif., July 4 (UPI) -- Bruce Chen dominated Los Angeles for seven-plus innings Saturday and the Kansas City Royals posted a 4-2 victory over the Angels.
Chen (5-2) was tough, yielding only two hits and a walk to Los Angeles in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out three in lifting the surging Royals to their seventh win in nine games.
Joakim Soria notched his 22nd save of the year despite allowing a run on two hits in the ninth.
Jose Guillen's two-run single in the eighth broke up a scoreless pitcher's duel and Jason Kendall and Yuniesky Betancourt added RBI in the ninth for a pair of Royals insurance runs.
Ervin Santana (8-6) was the hard-luck loser for the Angels, who fell five games behind Texas in the American League West thanks to a sputtering offense that has scored just nine runs in four games.
