BOSTON, July 4 (UPI) -- Brian Matusz tossed seven shutout innings and Baltimore scored a pair of runs on Boston errors Sunday in the Orioles' 6-1 victory.
Matusz (3-9) allowed only two hits, fanning eight and walking three to collect his first win since April 18. His performance enabled Baltimore to salvage one contest of a three-game set at Fenway Park.
A throwing error by Red Sox second baseman Marco Scutaro on Ty Wigginton's eighth-inning grounder allowed Julio Lugo to score, making it 3-0 Orioles. Cesar Izturis crossed the plate on right fielder J.D. Drew's error in the next frame for a four-run Baltimore advantage.
Nick Markakis went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Izturis collected three hits and scored a run for the victors.
Boston starter John Lackey (9-4) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits over 7 1/3 innings.
