JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, July 3 (UPI) -- David Villa scored with seven minutes remaining Saturday, giving Spain a 1-0 victory over Paraguay and a berth in the 2010 World Cup semifinals.

Villa found the net off the rebound of a shot taken by Pedro, which bounced off the left post and came out to the star midfielder near the penalty spot.

Villa's shot got a piece of the right post and trickled over the goal line, handing Spain the win and a spot against Germany in Wednesday's semifinal.

Germany advanced earlier Saturday after routing Argentina 4-0.

Villa's goal -- his World Cup-best fifth in the tournament -- came after both Spain goalie Iker Casillas and Paraguay netminder Justo Villar successfully defended against second-half penalty kicks.

Casillas later made back-to-back save chances on Lucas Barrios and Roque Santa Cruz in the 89th minute to preserve Spain's win.
