Armstrong, who has won cycling's signature race seven times, posted a statement on his Twitter page saying, "This will be (my) final Tour de France. It's been a great ride. Looking forward to 3 great weeks."

The cycling legend is riding for Team RadioShack this year. The team gained a Pro Tour license last fall and began competing this year.

Armstrong, 38, left cycling in 2006 but returned last year, partly to further his cause of cancer awareness. He finished third while riding for the Astana team, which is based in Kazakhstan.

He last won the Tour de France in 2005, the final of his seven consecutive championships.

This year's race begins Saturday with a warm-up in the Netherlands.

Capriati said recuperating after overdose

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 28 (UPI) -- Former world No. 1 tennis star Jennifer Capriati is recovering at a Florida hospital after an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, her spokeswoman says.

Lacey Wickline said in a statement issued Monday the one-time teen star is "recovering fully and speedily," CNN reported.

Wickline said Capriati, 34, is listed in stable condition, but didn't say where she was or provide any other details of the overdose, which Wickline said is thought to have happened late Saturday or early Sunday.

"In response to the outpouring of concern and support shown by Jennifer's friends and fans worldwide, we would like to acknowledge that Jennifer is recuperating at a south Florida hospital from an accidental overdose of medication prescribed by her personal physician," the statement said.

Capriati, who earned $1 million before turning 16, has had a history of drug problems and depression and dropped out of tennis for several years starting in 1993.

She returned to win three Grand Slams (2001 and 2002 Australian Open, 2001 French Open) and a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics.

Cubs P Zambrano headed for restricted list

CHICAGO, June 28 (UPI) -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano is headed for the restricted list and will begin a treatment program following his dugout meltdown, the team said Monday.

The pitcher has been suspended without pay since the Friday incident, in which he raged through the dugout, accusing teammates of not making plays after the Cubs surrendered an early 4-0 lead to the Chicago White Sox.

Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry said Zambrano -- who has a record of 3-6 and an ERA of 5.66 -- will go the restricted list Tuesday and undergo a treatment program in New York, to be conducted by doctors selected by Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association, after which he will be re-evaluated, MLB.com reported.

"If the program is acted upon properly and in accordance with what the doctors signify he needs to work on and improve on, Carlos would not be reinstated until sometime after the All-Star break," Hendry said.

"It's an unfortunate situation," the Cubs' GM said. "His actions certainly were inappropriate. As I said Friday, those actions toward his teammates and staff will not be tolerated."

Vick cooperating in Va. shooting probe

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., June 28 (UPI) -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is cooperating with police investigating a shooting at his birthday party last week, his attorney said Monday.

Police say Vick isn't a suspect in the shooting, in which an unidentified person was injured after attending his Thursday night birthday bash at a restaurant in the city's Town Center entertainment district, The (Norfolk, Va.) Virginian-Pilot reported.

But Vick's attorney, Lawrence H. Woodward Jr., told the newspaper the quarterback was voluntarily cooperating with the investigation and visited with detectives Monday morning.

Woodward asserted Vick left the party about 30 minutes before shots were fired on the street outside the Guadalajara restaurant.

While police hadn't identified the victim, The Virginian-Pilot said Quanis Phillips -- Vick's childhood friend and onetime dogfighting co-conspirator -- was ejected from the party before the shooting and later ended up Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital with a bullet wound.

A hospital representative said Phillips was discharged Friday afternoon.

No suspects had been charged in the shooting, the newspaper said.
