MIAMI, June 26 (UPI) -- Jon Garland tossed six-plus strong innings and hit a sacrifice fly Saturday to pace the San Diego Padres to a 2-1 victory over Florida.
Garland (8-5) outdueled Josh Johnson to win his fourth straight start against Florida, during which he has allowed the Marlins only four earned runs in 26 2/3 innings.
Garland went 6 2/3 frames Saturday, yielding only one run on four hits. His sacrifice fly in the fifth inning provided the Padres' winning margin, lifting National League West-leading San Diego to its fifth win in six games.
Heath Bell notched his 21st save of the year after hurling a scoreless ninth.
Johnson (8-3) was the hard-luck loser despite holding the Padres to two runs in eight innings, walking only one and striking out nine.
