ENDICOTT, N.Y., June 26 (UPI) -- Wayne Levi fired a 7-under-par 65 Friday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open.

Levi, 58, posted his best score since opening a Champions Tour event in San Antonio with a 65 in 2007.

"You have to putt well," Levi said. "If I miss half the putts I made today I would be 3-under and in 25th place. That's the difference."

Dan Forsman and Brad Bryant, both of whom were among the first five in this tournament a year ago, shared second place at 66. Mark Calcavecchia, making his Champions Tour debut, and defending titleholder Lonnie Nielsen were among those at 67.

Jeff Sluman, who had the longest current streak of consecutive events played at 49, withdrew due to a family commitment. Mark Wiebe now has the longest such streak at 38.
