DENVER, June 24 (UPI) -- Jason Giambi finished off a three-run, ninth-inning rally with a two-run homer Wednesday, bringing Colorado an 8-6 victory over Boston.
The Red Sox completed a comeback of their own by taking the lead with a four-run sixth and Jonathan Papelbon (2-4) came on in the ninth to protect a 6-5 cushion.
Ian Stewart, however, led off the ninth with a homer to right that tied the game and Clint Barmes followed with a bloop single. After Ryan Spilboroghs sacrificed Barmes to second, Giambi came on as a pinch-hitter and hit a 1-0 pitch out to right to win it.
Colorado has won the first two games of this series and has captured five out of six.
The victory went to Manuel Corpas (2-4), who worked the top of the ninth. The comeback also got Ubaldo Jimenez off the hook after his worst start of the season.
Jimenez had not allowed more than three runs in any previous start this year while building a 13-1 record, but he was touched for six runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. It was the first time this season Jimenez did not receive a decision.
