PHOENIX, June 23 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez homered and rookie Colin Curtis drove in two runs with his first major league hit Tuesday to pace the New York Yankees to a 9-3 win over Arizona.
Rodriguez finished the night with three RBI in support of Andy Pettitte (9-2), who held the Diamondbacks to two runs on seven hits and struck out seven over seven strong innings.
Curtis' double came in a 6-run Yankee eighth that began with New York holding a 3-2 lead. Curtis, who was brought in to bat for Pettitte, lined a fastball off Esmerling Vasquez to the wall in center field, allowing Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson to score easily and stake the New Yorkers to a 9-2 lead.
The loss went to Arizona starter Dan Haren (7-6), who lasted seven innings, striking out eight and allowing three runs on six hits. Haren also drove in two runs with a single in the second inning.
Arizona lost for the sixth time in the last eight games. The Yankees have won seven of their last 11.
