NEW YORK, June 23 (UPI) -- Angel Pagan went 4-for-6, drove in four runs and scored three times Tuesday, fueling the New York Mets' 14-6 inter-league rout of Detroit.
Pagan was a homer short of the cycle. He stroked an RBI triple in the first, produced a run-scoring single in an eight-run Mets third inning and drove in another run with a fourth-inning double in New York's rain-interrupted victory.
Ike Davis collected three hits and drove in three runs, David Wright went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI and Jason Bay also drove in a pair for the Mets, who won for the eighth time in 10 games.
Fernando Nieve (2-3) got credit for the victory after pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Jonathan Niese.
Detroit's Justin Verlander (8-5) was shellacked for five runs on five hits in a two-inning start.
Brennan Boesch homered and drove in three runs in Detroit's loss.
