
BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa, June 20 (UPI) -- Enrique Vera and Cristian Riveros scored Sunday to lead Paraguay to a 2-0 victory over Slovakia in 2010 World Cup Group F play.
With the easy win, Paraguay took over first place in the group with four points in two games. Coupled with Italy's 1-1 draw with New Zealand Sunday, Paraguay posted a two-point lead over those two teams.
Paraguay took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when, after a barrage of chances, Lucas Barrios set up Vera for the after a turnover in Slovakia's end. On the play, Barrios put a pass through a defender's legs to Vera, who drove a first-time shot past the goalkeeper.
Paraguay's second goal came with four minutes left. The ball bounced to Paulo Da Silva on a free kick and he connected with Riveros at the edge of the box. Riveros found the left side of the net from 18 yards.
Group F completes play Thursday when Paraguay plays New Zealand and Slovakia takes on Italy.
