SAN DIEGO, June 20 (UPI) -- Will Venable blasted a three-run homer and Nick Hundley drove in three runs Sunday in the San Diego Padres' 9-4 inter-league victory over Baltimore.
Venable's third-inning shot put the Padres on top for good after they had spotted Baltimore an early 4-0 lead. He later added a run-scoring single to finish with four RBI and Hundley chipped in with a two-run shot in the seventh as the Padres took the rubber match of a three-game series at Petco Park.
John Garland (7-5) broke a personal three-game losing streak, allowing four first-inning runs and then settling down to limit the O's to four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.
Orioles rookie Jake Arrieta (2-1) absorbed his first major league loss. He allowed six runs on five hits in a three-inning performance.
Matt Wieters drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double for the Orioles.
