DENVER, June 20 (UPI) -- Seth Smith's RBI single highlighted a four-run eighth inning that carried the Colorado Rockies to an 8-7 inter-league victory over Milwaukee.
Tied 4-4 entering the frame, Brad Hawpe hit a lead-off double off Zach Braddock (1-1). Chris Nelson reached on a fielder's choice and Ian Stewart walked to load the bases.
Kameron Loe entered and got Miguel Olivo to line out but Jason Giambi's sacrifice fly put Colorado up 5-4.
Smith then stroked a solid single and Nelson came around to score from second, beating left fielder Ryan Braun's throw home and knocking the ball from catcher Jonathan Lucroy's glove.
Stewart scored as Lucroy scrambled to recover the ball and Jonathan Herrera added an RBI single to finish the rally.
The Rockies would end up needing that final run when Corey Hart hit a three-run homer in the ninth off Manuel Corpas with two outs. But Rafael Betancourt secured his first save of the season by getting the final out.
