NEW YORK, June 19 (UPI) -- Curtis Granderson socked a two-run homer in the fourth inning to break a tie Saturday, handing the New York Yankees a 5-3 win over the New York Mets.
Jorge Posada led off the fourth by coaxing a walk from Mike Pelfrey (9-2) and Granderson followed by hitting a deep shot to right, breaking a 3-3 tie and helping the Yankees to a victory over their crosstown inter-league rivals, which broke a three-game losing streak.
Mark Teixeira added a two-run homer and Brett Gardner chipped in with two hits and two runs scored for the Yankees.
Phil Hughes posted his 10th win of the year against only one loss, holding the Mets to three runs on five hits over seven innings, walking three and striking out four.
Joba Chamberlain pitched a scoreless eighth and Mariano Rivera racked up his 16th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Jose Reyes clouted a pair of homers and drove in all three runs for the Mets, whose seven-game winning streak was snapped.
