WASHINGTON, June 19 (UPI) -- Jake Peavy hurled a three-hit shutout and Carlos Quentin drove in the only run of the game Saturday, carrying the Chicago White Sox past Washington 1-0.

He struck out seven and walked two in his 107-pitch gem, in which he allowed only one runner as far as third, handing the Sox their fifth straight win and ninth in 10 games.

Chicago got the inter-league game's sole run in the fourth inning, when Quentin stroked a two-out single to score Omar Vizquel, who had led off with a single and advanced to second on an out.

J.D. Martin (0-3) absorbed the hard-luck loss for the Nationals, allowing only the one run on eight hits over six innings of work.
