Makarova, Azarenka make Eastbourne finals

EASTBOURNE, England, June 18 (UPI) -- Ekaterina Makarova and Victoria Azarenka pulled off upsets Friday and won berths in the finals of the Aegon International grass-court tennis tournament.

Makarova ousted third-seeded Samantha Stosur 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 on the strength of nine aces and no double faults. She had her serve broken twice in the first set but held serve all six times in the second. Stosur won just 10 points on Makarova's serve in the second set.

Azarenka was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over eighth-seeded Marion Bartoli. Azarenka collected four service breaks while winning 76 percent of the points on her own serve.

Saturday's finals will mark the first career meeting between Azarenka, who is No. 15 in the world, and the No. 100-ranked Makarova. Azarenka owns three ATP tournament titles, with two coming last year.
