Jones puts retirement talk aside

ATLANTA, June 18 (UPI) -- Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones says he doesn't want to talk about whether or not he's going to retire at the end of the season.

Jones told reporters Thursday he has "not made a decision either way."

"Let's face it. We all know sort of which way I'm leaning, but I think it's best that we put this all behind us," the six-time all-star said, adding he doesn't want to be a distraction for his team or Manager Bobby Cox, who has stated his own intentions to retire from his job once the season is over.

"The bottom line is I'm going to be here playing third base for at the very least the next 3 1/2 months."

Jones, battling injuries, is hitting .234 with four homers and 23 RBI in 53 games this year, well off his .306 career average.
