PHILADELPHIA, June 17 (UPI) -- Police in Philadelphia say they confiscated a handgun from a former National Football League player during a minor traffic incident.

Former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison was stopped by officers Wednesday for driving the wrong way on a one-way street, The Philadelphia Daily News reported.

During questioning, Harrison failed to mention, as required by law, than he had a handgun in the SUV he was driving, the newspaper said.

The officers confiscated the weapon, and Harrison was not charged with any wrongdoing and left the scene.

The weapon might be test-fired by investigators, a police source said, to see whether it may have been used in two prior shootings linked to Harrison.

In April 2008, Philadelphia resident Dwight Dixon alleged Harrison shot him in the hand as the two fought near Harrison's garage in North Philly, and another man, Robert Nixon, claimed he was hit in the back during the incident.

Police say ballistics showed several shots were fired that day from a gun Harrison admitted he owned.

Charges never were filed, authorities said, because those involved and other witnesses gave numerous contradictory accounts of the shooting.

In July 2009 Dixon was shot two blocks away from Harrison's bar, Playmakers, and died two months later.

His killing remains unsolved, but earlier this year District Attorney Seth Williams called Harrison a "person of interest" in the case, the Daily News reported.
