

EASTBOURNE, England, June 14 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Gilles Simon was among the first-round winners Monday at the grass-court Aegon International tournament in England.
Simon was one of four seeded players who advanced to the second round with wins Monday. He moved on with a 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4 victory over Evgeny Korolev. Simon won just five more points (106-101) in the match but grouped enough to amass five breaks of serve.
Fourth-seeded Julien Benneteau got by James Blake 7-6 (7-3), 7-5; No. 6-seeded Horacio Zeballos hung on for a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win over Lukas Lacko; and eighth-seeded Michael Llodra blitzed Martin Emmrich 6-0, 6-3 in the matches involving seeded players.
In other completed matches Monday, Denis Istomin ripped Eduardo Schwank 6-0, 6-3; Fabio Fognini took a 7-6 (13-11), 6-7 (3-7), 6-3 win from Giovanni Lapentti; and Stephane Robert beat Leonard Mayer 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Also, Dudi Sela and Andrey Kuznetsov each advanced when their opponents were injured.
