Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

BALTIMORE, June 11 (UPI) -- A three-run homer by Chris Carter and an eight-strikeout performance by R.A. Dickey Friday propelled the New York Mets to a 5-1 win over Baltimore.
Carter's blast came in the fourth to give the Mets a 4-0 lead and they then rode the unbeaten Dickey (4-0) to their sixth win in seven games.
Dickey gave up seven hits over seven innings. The eight strikeouts were a career best.
The other two New York runs were driven in by David Wright with a single in the first and a double in the eighth. Baltimore outhit the Mets 11-10.
Jeremy Guthrie (3-7) took the loss, surrendering four runs on seven hits over seven innings. The Orioles have dropped 13 of 15.
