Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CLEVELAND, June 7 (UPI) -- Daisuke Matsuzaka hurled eight shutout innings and Marco Scutaro hit three doubles Monday to propel the Boston Red Sox to a 4-1 win over Cleveland.
Matsuzaka scattered four hits, walked two and struck out five in his 112-pitch gem. He allowed only one Cleveland runner to reach second base.
Scutaro ended 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs, coming home on sacrifice flies by Kevin Youkilis in the first and Victor Martinez in the seventh to help the Red Sox win their seventh game in nine contests.
Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona (4-5) issued six walks en route to allowing three runs on five hits over six innings.
Austin Kearns got the Indians' only run with a ninth-inning solo homer.
