BALTIMORE, June 6 (UPI) -- Nick Markakis hit a game-winning single in the 11th Sunday, boosting Baltimore to a 4-3 win over Boston and breaking a 10-game Orioles losing streak.
Markakis lofted a pitch from Hideki Okajima (2-2) to left-center, sending Cesar Izturis home with the decisive run and handing new O's skipper Juan Samuel his first victory as a manager.
Izturis led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Julio Lugo. Boston Manager Terry Francona elected to intentionally walk Miguel Tejada to get to Markakis, but the strategy backfired.
David Hernandez (2-5) picked up the win, holding the Bosox scoreless over the final two innings. Will Ohman blew a save chance when he allowed Boston to tie the game with a single run in the top of the ninth.
Victor Martinez led Boston at the plate with a two-run homer.
