MLS: San Jose 2, Columbus 2 (Tie)

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 3 (UPI) -- A goal by Chris Wondolowski in the 79th minute Wednesday lifted the San Jose Earthquakes into a 2-2 tie with Columbus.

The draw moved San Jose (5-3-2) into a tie with Houston for third place in the Western Conference after Houston fell to New York earlier in the evening.

Columbus twice took a one-goal lead, but could not come away with the three points that would have kept the Crew four points in front of New York atop the Eastern Conference standings. Columbus has 20 points to 18 for New York.

The teams traded goals in the opening 6 minutes -- Eddie Gaven scoring for Columbus and Arturo Alvarez for San Jose.

Columbus regained the lead in the 70th minute on a corner kick by Guillermo Barros Schelotto that eluded San Jose goalkeeper Joe Cannon.

Wondolowski's game-tying goal was his first of the season.
