Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

BOSTON, June 2 (UPI) -- David Ortiz put Boston in front with a two-run homer in the fifth Wednesday and the Red Sox went on to defeat Oakland 6-4 for their fourth straight win.
Boston overcame an early three-run deficit and Daisuke Matsuzaka settled down after a rough start to record his fourth victory in five decisions.
Kurt Suzuki touched Matsuzaka (4-2) for a two-run homer during a three-run first but Boston got right back in the game in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run single by Kevin Youkilis.
Ortiz then gave the Red Sox a 4-3 lead with his 12th home run of the season.
Matsuzaka allowed 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings to get the win.
The loss went to Ben Sheets (2-4), who surrendered four runs on seven hits in six innings.
