MLB: Los Angeles Angels 9, Seattle 7

ANAHEIM, Calif., May 30 (UPI) -- Howie Kendrick smashed an opposite-field three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth Sunday, rallying the Los Angeles Angels to a 9-7 win over Seattle.

With the Mariners leading 7-6 entering the inning, Seattle reliever David Aardsma (0-3) walked Hideki Matsui to lead off and retired Juan Rivera on a long fly ball. Mike Napoli then hit a sharp grounder back to Aardsma, who couldn't handle the potential double-play ball and allowed the Angels catcher to reach on a single.

Kendrick then launched an Aardsma delivery into the right center field stands, giving the Angels their second straight win on a walk-off homer and a win in the rubber match of a three-game with the M's.

The celebration following Saturday's game-winning grand slam home run by Kendry Morales was dampened when Morales suffered a broken leg during a dog pile at home plate.

Fernando Rodney (4-0) was credited with the win after hurled a scoreless top of the ninth despite allowing two walks.

Eliezer Alfonso connected on a three-run homer for Seattle.

Morales had been scheduled to have surgery Sunday to repair his fractured lower left leg but that has been put off and team orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum said there is a chance Morales could return to action this season, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"I don't think September is out of the question," Yocum said.
