DETROIT, May 30 (UPI) -- Max Scherzer threw 5 2/3 shutout innings and Miguel Cabrera went 4-for-5 with four RBI Sunday in the Detroit Tigers' 10-4 win over Oakland.
Scherzer (2-4), making his first start since being recalled from Triple-A Toledo to replace Dontrelle Willis in the Tigers' rotation, was spectacular, fanning 14 batters and allowing only a pair of hits in his start.
Joel Zumaya gained his first save of the year by pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth innings.
Cabrera smashed his 14th homer of the year in the eighth inning after also plating a run with an RBI double in the third to make it 3-0 Detroit, helping the Tigers salvage one contest of the three-game weekend series with the A's.
Brandon Inge was 3-for-5 with a solo homer and Carlos Guillen added a bases-empty shot in Detroit's win.
Dallas Braden (4-5) surrendered five runs on 11 hits in six innings of work for Oakland. Daric Barton led the A's at the plate with a two-run homer.
