MLB: NY Yankees 8, Cleveland 2

NEW YORK, May 28 (UPI) -- Nick Swisher hit a two-run homer and Robinson Cano delivered a grand slam Friday in sending the New York Yankees sailing past Cleveland 8-2.

Both Swisher and Cano reached 10 homers for the season while producing more than enough offense to support Phil Hughes.

Hughes (6-1), who was coming off his first loss of the season, lasted seven innings. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck out eight. Hughes fanned the first five batters he faced.

After losing five games out of six, the Yankees have won three of their last four.

Swisher's homer off the right-field foul pole came in the second inning with Cano aboard, and Cano broke things open with his bases-loaded smash in the seventh. It was the third grand slam of his career.

One of Cleveland's runs came on a homer by Russell Branyan. The Indians have won just twice in their last 11 games.

Fausto Carmona was charged with the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits in six innings.
