Three-way tie at Colonial

FORT WORTH, Texas, May 27 (UPI) -- Rookie Blake Adams, who came close to his first PGA Tour win last week, shared the lead Thursday after one round of the Colonial Invitation.

Adams, Jeff Overton and Jason Bohn all shot a 7-under 63 on a hot day at the Colonial Country Club. Adams finished tied for second last week behind Jason Day at the Byron Nelson Classic.

Brian Davis, who called a penalty on himself and eventually lost in a playoff at the Heritage last month, shot a 64 and was alone in fourth place.

Phil Mickelson, who with a win this week would pass Tiger Woods and become the top-ranked player in the world, opened with a disappointing 71 on a day of low scoring. He was tied for 89th place and likely will need at least a 68 Friday to survive the 36-hole cut.

"There is no excuse. There is no wind," said Mickelson, a two-time winner of this event. "The golf course has been in perfect shape and there are a lot of scores out there. I just wasn't one of them."

Bohn is looking for his second win of the season, having captured the event in New Orleans. Overton finished second in that tournament.

Among those at 65 were Zach Johnson, Bill Haas and Nathan Green. John Daly, playing on a sponsor's exemption, equaled his best round of the year with a 66. He has completed just three of the nine tournaments in which he has played in 2010.

Defending champion Steve Stricker, playing for the first time since the Masters after suffering a shoulder injury, had a 68. Players Championship winner Tim Clark, who has been the runner-up at Colonial each of the last two years, had a 67.
