SAN DIEGO, May 27 (UPI) -- Jerry Hairston Jr. hit a solo home run with two outs in the 13th inning Wednesday, giving the San Diego Padres a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Hairston, whose second-inning home run Tuesday off Cardinals pitching was the only run in a 1-0 Padres win Tuesday, connected with a first-pitch fastball from Mitchell Boggs (0-2) and sent it over the wall in left-center in ending Wednesday's game.

The home runs in consecutive games are Hairston's only two homers of the season.

San Diego managed only seven other hits -- six singles -- over the first 12 innings. Two of the hits came in the eighth inning when Adrian Gonzalez led off with a single and, two outs later, Matt Stairs drove him in with a double.

San Diego reliever Heath Bell struck out the first two St. Louis batters in the ninth but Skip Schumaker singled to center and advanced to second when the ball got away from the Padres' outfielders. Ryan Ludwick singled, driving in Schumaker, and forcing extra innings.

Edward Mujica (2-0) the sixth San Diego pitcher used in the game, pitched two innings of no-hit ball in collecting the win.
