
CHICAGO, May 27 (UPI) -- Matt Kemp's two-run double in the second gave Los Angeles a five-run lead Wednesday and the Dodgers held on to down the Chicago Cubs 8-5.
The Dodgers had lost their previous two games, but got off to a quick start against Tom Gorzelanny (2-5) and then survived despite allowing the Cubs 14 hits.
James Loney contributed three hits with an RBI and a run scored and Chad Billingsley went 5 1/3 innings to win his fourth straight.
Billingsley (6-2) allowed three runs, two earned, on 10 hits with six strikeouts.
Chicago got a solo homer from Xavier Nady in the sixth and a two-run triple from Jeff Baker in the seventh, cutting the Los Angeles lead to 7-5.
Casey Blake added an insurance homer for the Dodgers in the ninth. Gorzelanny gave up seven runs on seven hits in five-plus innings.
