Yanks sign P Gaudin to major-league deal

MINNEAPOLIS, May 26 (UPI) -- The New York Yankees have re-signed pitcher Chad Gaudin to a major league contract, team officials said Wednesday in Minneapolis.

Gaudin, who pitched for the Yanks last year and in spring training this season, was recently released by the Oakland Athletics after going 0-2 with an 8.83 earned run average in 12 appearances for the A's.

In 2009 Gaudin was 2-0 with a 3.43 ERA in 11 games for New York after he was acquired from San Diego.

To make room on the 40-man roster, pitcher Shane Lindsay was designated for assignment, while to create a spot on the Yanks' 25-man roster the club optioned pitcher Boone Logan to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.
